Aaron Fischman, MD

Aaron M. Fischman is a nationally and internationally recognized interventional radiologist. He holds professorships in Diagnostic, Molecular and Interventional Radiology; Urology; Surgery; and Medical Education at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

 

He is also the Program Director for Mount Sinai’s highly regarded Interventional Radiology residency training program.

Areas of Expertise :
  • Transradial Access Techniques — A leader in pioneering wrist (radial artery) access for oncologic liver interventions, uterine fibroid embolization, and prostate artery embolization, offering enhanced patient comfort, shorter recovery, and reduced radiation exposure.

  • Minimally Invasive Embolization Therapies — Broad expertise in Y‑90 radioembolization, chemoembolization, microwave and cryoablation, and treatments for venous disease including DVT, varicose veins, portal hypertension (TIPS, BRTO), and complex IVC filter removal.

  • Clinical Trial Leadership — Principal investigator in the BEAT Obesity Trial (minimally invasive weight-loss procedure) and the BEST Trial (embolization vs TURP for BPH), as well as co-investigator in other multicenter interventional studies.

  • Academic & Educational Contributions — Prolific author of peer-reviewed publications and textbooks; regular global lecturer on novel, minimally invasive IR techniques; Program Director overseeing IR training across Mount Sinai Health System.
